Evolutionary based system for production scheduling in foundry

This work presents a development of a capable-to-promise system for companies that operate under the hybrid make-to-order and maketo-stock strategy in a lot-sizing and flowshop environment. Proposed system simultaneously considers planning and scheduling processes in order to achieve the optimality. Optimisation engine is based on an advanced evolutionary algorithm. Information available in ERP system from different production units and stages, the optimization module, and customer requests are integrated via Internet using XML language as a data exchange standard. The details on key elements of the system and a software architecture are given. Practical application of the system is illustrated on the example of production scheduling for an iron castings foundry.
